So we are just shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond. I walk down the aisle with the girls and happen to see this beautiful black woman. I thought to myself...she looks SO familiar. I continued shopping and thought, Oh My goodness!...I swear that is Gladys Knight. So I passed the employee a few minutes later and asked her if it was and she said "I have no idea." So I snuck around the store and so I would be face-to-face with her when I turned the corner! So, I drug the girls around the corner and my plan worked.
There I was, and I made eye contact with the guy pushing her shopping cart. I asked him, "Is that Gladys Knight?" He quietly shook his head yes and pointed to his lips like "shhhh!" I asked him if he was her husband he told me no, he is her road manager. So I asked him, "Would she let us get a picture taken with her?" He said that she probably would not mind at all. So I sat around and the BBB Worker asked me if I needed something. I told her, no I'm fine. So I kept hanging around and Bailee keeps saying "What are we doing Mommy?"
Couple minutes later, the worker calls on her walkie talkie for some backup to the linens department! I said, "No. I don't need help!" (Hoping she wasn't calling security to escort me off, cuz I was stalking a customer!) Anyways, FINALLY she looked at me and I was SO nervous! My pits were sweating and my heart was racing! I looked at her and rambled on like a blooming idiot, "Would you mind if we got a picture with you?... My mom is a huge fan....And I um, I, Well, I just got her your CD for Christmas (which was a lie!) and I want to send her a picture and tell her I saw you in the store! She is going to be so jealous!" She smiled this HUGE smile and was SO nice!!!
The first picture we took the manager who took it cut our heads off, so he took it again...which I was SO glad, because Gladys (we're on a first name basis now) reached down and picked Bailee up and was darling with her. Bailee has no idea how cool it is! So I thanked her and she told me "sure! No problem!" I thought of SO many things I could say like "Hey, see ya at the temple sometime eh?! OR, the church is true! Or, you are SO pretty! Or isn't that too bad about President Hinckley?" BUT...thankfully, the only thing that came out was, "Thank you so much!"
We walked away and Bailee says, "Mom, WHO was that?" I just kept ahold of her hand and said, "I'll tell you in a minute sweetie!"
The bummer about it all was that I looked like CRAP! The one day I don't do my hair! But
I also have to tell another cool part of the story...I always keep my camera in my purse and when I was leaving our house, I saw it on the counter I thought to myself...I should get that in case I need it for a nice photo op or something. So thankfully, I followed my little prompting and put it in my purse =)

SO cool Kara, and you look darling in the picture! You are a rockin mom!
That is you looking like crap, you have got to be kidding me. Could you be any cuter? And the girls looked like dolls. That is a hillarious post, because I can just picture the entire scenario the way you wrote it. You are the best. Thanks for being brave, remembering the camera, and posting, and making me laugh. I love you!
You've got guts Kara. I would of just looked at her through the pillows so she wouldn't see me! You and the girls are so adorable.
Hey Kara-This is Staci, your sister in law Kate's cousin. Remember me? Anyway, I found your blog a while ago when I was blog surfing and I've been meaning to comment, but I didn't want you to think I was psycho. But, after reading your post about seeing Gladys Knight, I wanted to say hi and say that's awesome you got a picture with her and had the guts to ask. I don't think I could have! So cool though! I love how you were like, "Should I have said, see ya at the temple?!" So funny!
Anyway, looks like you are doing well and enjoying Vegas. Looking forward to match day I'm sure too! Been there done that! :)
I think my husband's family used to live by your husband's family. My in-laws used to live on Lakeview Drive in Bountiful. After looking at a couple of your pictures of you and your husband, I realized that's where I recognize him from. We actually lived in my in-laws house for a little bit in 2000, so I may have seen him in the ward there a time or two.
Anyway, I hope you don't think I'm a psycho for commenting. I just wanted to say hi. We have a blog that you are more than welcome to check out also. I just barely made it private though, so you'll have to get me your email address so I can invite you. Here's mine: thebarlows99@hotmail.com
Hope to hear from you soon! Your girls are darling by the way! :)
You're so funny Kara! I can just picture you all flustered. That's cool that you got a picture. My mom would have seriously pee'd her pants.
If I looked as you do looking like "crap" I would be a happy camper.
How fun for you to meet Gladys. Way to go about stepping up to the plate and getting a picture. I compare moments like those to knowing you have to bare your testimony because your heart starts racing and you really don't want to, but you know you have to!
